SeaFrigo – Elizabeth, NJ

JAX HVAC was subcontracted by R.C. Anderson, LLC to work on the construction of a new cold storage facility for a French-based food distribution company, SeaFrigo. The new construction, greenfield project was a stand-alone building in Elizabeth, NJ, that would serve the on-land and container needs of the company. JAX Refrigeration was tasked with providing the refrigeration systems for its 110,000-square-foot freezer with attached 20,000-square-foot loading dock. SeaFrigo’s cooling guidelines required the freezer to be chilled to a constant -10 degrees Fahrenheit while the refrigerated loading dock that interfaced between the freezer and trucks had to maintain a 38-degree temperature.

The New Jersey location, however, posed a unique challenge because the state prefers the use of ammonia-free systems. JAX HVAC was chosen to create a rare, dual-refrigeration system that utilized R507 refrigerant in lieu of the more traditional ammonia-based system. Over roughly an eight-month period, JAX HVAC designed and installed a centralized Co2/R507 cascade refrigeration system that included three reciprocating compressors, two rotary screw compressors, a condenser and the associated vessel packages and refrigeration equipment. The specialized system required the use of more highly skilled installation technicians, which JAX HVAC was able to staff in-house.
