Hydra-310, SpaceX time capsule, will be launched to orbit featuring locally selected artwork
Jacksonville, Florida— April 1, 2021 — On Jan. 11, SpaceX announced the Hydra-310 spacecraft will be launched into orbit carrying a time capsule on May 1 of this year. SpaceX Leadership hand selected an assortment of items to represent a snapshot of 21st Century Earth. It has been theorized that the satellites in Earth’s orbit will become the ultimate ruins of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, outlasting all material goods on our planet.
According to this theory, this geostationary space junk will eventually become the singular evidence of our civilization. Items selected to be included in the SpaceX Hydra-310 Time Capsule Project include currency from every sovereign nation as well as various electronic devices, works of art (assorted medium), books and tools. Selections were made to offer a snapshot of Earth inhabitants’ culture and way of life in the 21st Century.
A look inside the spacecraft as payloads bound for orbit on the SpaceX Hydra-310 Time Capsule mission are loaded. The spacecraft will deliver more than 6,400 pounds of cargo into orbit.
Among the items selected is a mosaic created by Mr. Mark Lowery, President of JAX Refrigeration, Inc., in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. According to Mr. Lowery, this hand-crafted mosaic which depicts ‘Fridgie’, the company’s apparent logo and mascot, was inspired by a painting his daughter had gifted him and took more than 80 hours to complete. A photo of Mark with his creation was recently posted on social media, drawing a great deal of attention as it went viral, and was subsequently noticed and chosen by the SpaceX Team for inclusion in the Hydra-310 time capsule program.
When asked about the recent announcement, Mr. Lowery had the following to say: “Obviously it is an honor to be recognized by SpaceX and to have my artwork included. As a fellow entrepreneur, I have a great deal of respect for Elon, the SpaceX team and am excited to be a part of this project.”
Mr. Lowery admitted surprise when asked why he thinks his masterpiece has drawn so much attention, enough to be preserved for eternity in space. “I’m not exactly sure how or why my piece was selected, but to me it just confirms that everybody loves Fridgie,” he quipped. In an interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, Lowery was questioned about the authenticity of the piece. “If my own employees don’t think I was the artist behind the mosaic, what will the aliens think?” He continued with acknowledgment of this high honor and its meaning to him personally, “I always wanted to be an astronaut. At least with this Fridgie will be able to take my place in space!”
In closing, Mark had the following to say: “My hope is when this time capsule is opened by someone in the distant future, they immediately recognize JAX Refrigeration as the most responsive single-source provider of commercial and industrial refrigeration, HVAC, engineering and mechanical system solutions in the galaxy.”
